Nomad eSIM’s Singapore Race Weekend Travel Guide: What to Know Before Heading Down

There is more to planning a Singapore race weekend than knowing when the sessions start. Road closures, data roaming, late-night transport, tropical weather and current haze conditions can all affect your plans.

F1 Race Car 2026

Heading to Singapore for the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix? Race weekend runs from 9–11 October, bringing three days of racing and entertainment to the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

But there is more to planning a Singapore race weekend than knowing when the sessions start. Road closures, data roaming, late-night transport, tropical weather and current haze conditions can all affect your plans.

Here is what travellers need to know before heading to the Singapore Grand Prix, from getting to your circuit gate to exploring the city and staying connected.

Singapore Grand Prix 2026: Race Weekend Schedule

All times below are Singapore local time, SGT or UTC+8. Check the official timetable again before setting off, as timings can change.

With the Sprint on Saturday afternoon and the main race on Sunday evening, allow plenty of time for transport, security checks and walking to your entry gate.

How to Get to the Singapore Grand Prix

Public transport is the easiest way to reach the Marina Bay area during race weekend.

Roads around Marina Centre and the Padang will be closed in stages from 7–13 October, with some bus diversions from 6–12 October.

Choose your MRT station wisely: Your ticket's entry gate should determine your MRT route. Plan your route before leaving your hotel rather than simply travelling to the nearest MRT station you can find.

  • Gate 1: Nicoll Highway
  • Gate 2: Promenade
  • Gate 8: Bayfront

Getting Back After the Race

Late-night transport is particularly important after the Friday and Saturday programmes and Sunday's main race.

The final North–South and East–West line trains from City Hall are listed at:

  • After Friday and Saturday’s programmes: 12.30am the following morning.
  • After Sunday’s programme: 12.45am on Monday morning.

Check connecting services: Confirm your onward connections separately. Extended operating hours do not include the Changi Airport service.

Taking a taxi or private-hire car: Use the designated pick-up points, as road closures may affect where your driver can meet you.

Singapore Grand Prix 2026: What to Know About the Haze

Singapore is currently experiencing haze and elevated PSI readings, making air quality another factor for race-weekend visitors to monitor.

Check the latest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading before spending a long period outdoors, particularly if you are planning to attend the circuit or explore the city on foot. Bring a mask along with you too!

Make Room for Singapore Beyond the Circuit

Choose one neighbourhood or attraction each morning, then leave a generous buffer for lunch, your journey and entry checks. Saturday’s 5pm Sprint makes it particularly easy to underestimate how early you need to head back.

  • Chinatown: Spend a morning exploring temples, murals and traditional shops. Keep the afternoon flexible rather than fitting several neighbourhoods into one outing.
  • Kampong Gelam: Make time for the area’s Malay heritage and street culture. It is a good choice for a slower wander before an evening at the track.
  • Little India: Explore the markets and murals around Serangoon Road, then stop for food at Tekka Centre. Little India and Jalan Besar MRT stations serve the neighbourhood.
  • Gardens by the Bay: Build a visit around the attractions you most want to see. Check opening hours and ticket requirements directly before booking, and allow time to reach your circuit gate afterwards.

Pack for a Long Day Out

Keep your bag light and check the organiser’s current entry rules before packing. Comfortable footwear, a charged phone and a plan for wet weather will help you spend less time solving problems once you arrive.

  • Bring a charging cable and power bank, subject to the event’s current permitted-item rules.
  • Consider a lightweight rain poncho and sun protection, and check the forecast each morning.
  • Plan regular water breaks and check the rules for bringing bottles into the venue.
  • Consider ear protection, particularly if you are sensitive to loud noise.
  • Save your hotel address, entry instructions and a meeting point for your group offline. Use the ticket issuer’s approved ticket format; do not assume a screenshot will be accepted.

If your group wants to see different sessions or explore separately, agree on a meeting place and time before splitting up. A precise landmark is easier to find than a message saying “near the exit”.

Keep Your Final Day Flexible

Avoid squeezing a tightly timed airport transfer into the end of race night. If you are leaving on Monday, check your hotel’s vehicle access and build extra time into the journey while road closures are still in place. Confirm transport arrangements before settling in to watch Sunday’s race.

Set Up Your Connection Before You Travel

Your phone will be useful throughout race weekend, for MRT directions, ride-hailing, tickets, weather and PSI updates, and finding friends in crowded areas.

  • If you are using an eSIM, set it up before you travel:
  • Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
  • Install your eSIM while you have reliable internet access.
  • Save your hotel address, tickets and essential travel information offline.
  • Follow your provider's activation instructions when you arrive.
  • Check your home SIM's roaming settings to avoid unexpected charges.

Nomad eSIM offers prepaid Singapore eSIM plans for travellers who want to arrange mobile data before arrival.

Make Your Data and Battery Last

Race weekend can mean heavier mobile use from navigation, messaging, ride-hailing and social media.

Save maps and important information offline where possible, and use Wi-Fi for large photo backups, app updates and video uploads.

If travelling beyond Singapore, check that your plan covers every destination on your itinerary and matches the full length of your trip.
